1. independent variable: does not need something else because it is isolated {x-variable}
ex. 4x+2 ( independent=2 )
2. dependent variable: needs something else
ex. 4x+2 ( dependent=4 )
3. integers: positive and negative whole numbers and zero
ex. -2, -1 , 0, 1, 2
4. quadratic: an expression with the highest exponential number of 2
ex. 4x²+3x+2
5. radical: principal nth root of the number
ex. n√k
6. square root: 1 of the 2 equal factors whose product is the given number
ex. +/-√k ( is what the square root of k equals )
7. radicand: the number underneath the radical sign
ex. n√k ( is where the k is )
8. perfect square: is when a radical number can be divided by itself
ex. √64
9. rational: can be express a/b form in which a and b are integers and b can not be zero.
ex. 1/3
10. irrational: a decimal number that goes on for ever but never repeats
ex. √41
11. real numbers: any number that exist it can be the smallest or the biggest
ex. 51, 4, 15, 8
12. f.o.i.l: when multiplying two binomials distribute twice
ex. (x+4) (x-2)
13. box method: a strategy use when solving trinomials that are quadratics of which you pull out the greatest common factor of each pair.
ex. x²+18x+81=
________
l_x²_l_9x_l (x+9)(x+9)
l_9x_l_81_l
14. trinomial: an expression or equation with 3 terms
ex.5x²-3x+9
15. standard form: can be solved by breaking down the quadratic equation into 2 linear equations.
ex. ax²+bx+c (a≠0) and ax+b (a≠0)
16. zero product rule: the product of 2 real numbers is 0, then at least 1 of these 2 numbers must be equal to 0.
ex. 8x0=0
17. parabola: the graph of a quadratic equation
ex. U
18. denominator: the number under the bar of a fraction
ex. _a_
? (?= denoominator)
19. rationalize: if the fraction is an expression then you multiply it by the denominator but if the fraction is an equation then you multiply by its conjugate
ex. _4_ (√2) = _4_√2_
√2 (√2) = √4 = 2√2
20. conjugates: the result of writing the sum of 2 terms as a difference or vise-versa of which its the opposite of the equation you started with.
ex. 7x-6 (conjugate would be 7x+6)
21. graphing calculator: an advanced tool use to graph equations in addition to perform the calculated functions of a scientific calculator.
22. natural numbers: known as "counting numbers" are the numbers stamped onto a ruler.
ex. 1, 2, 3
23. whole numbers: combining zero with the counting numbers.
ex. 0, 1 , 2, 3
24. nth root: when n is any counting number ( is 1 of n equal factors whose product is that # )
ex. 3x3x3x3=81, then 3 is the 4th root of 81
25. radicand: the inside number of a radical
ex. n√k ( in this case k )

Dionelis
Hey peoples this is your girl, Dionelis Santiago. I was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, raised in the Boogie Down Bronx. My Birthday is August 20, and yes im a LEO of course no doubt about it. I am 15 years old. My best subject is math and literacy. Math to me is just fun and I'm good with numbers and for literacy I just love writing, it doesn't matter on what topic because I'm still able to express my true feelings through my form and style of my writing. My weakest subject is biology because it just doesn't interest me, so I get bored in class. I'm going to have to get use to it if i wish to be a veterinarian in the future. I do try to stay focus but sometimes is hard because I tend to day dream alot, when I'm bored. I love dancing, going to parties, and basically just having a blast with my life but at the same time still taking care of the family. My favorite sports are football and baseball. Well dudettes this is just a little bit of myself, so I'm out.....peace!!!!
